In today’s news via the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have banned supporters from using iPads and large electronic devices inside of their iconic stomping grounds (Old Trafford). This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a major sports club taking this action, and I support it 100%. It’s ridiculous when people hold up a tablet at almost any time to take a picture, let alone when it blocks the view of the person behind you. I imagine there was a lot of videos being taken, too.
It’s great to see the organization take an official stand on this issue. This reminds me of when I was at the Childish Gambino concert in Austin this year at SXSW. Every couple of minutes security would whip water into the crowd out of bottles with holes on the top, and with instinctual immediacy everyone would put away their iPhones and cameras.
Anyways, I thought this was interesting news, and I’m glad to see the majority of the Daily Mirror’s readers agree. Now to somehow survive the next four days until the Premier League starts… Ordered myself a special United accessory yesterday online (since I won’t be buying a kit this year) that should be arriving Friday… Stay posted.
